To Kill A Mockingbird is not only a classic piece of literature, but it teaches our growing and changing youth the importance of treating everyone equal. As our current President quoted Atticus Finch during his farewell address, we must learn to not judge others until we have walked in their skin or shoes. Students learn historical context and experience personal growth while reading To Kill A Mockingbird. It is rather difficult to pull students out of their social media worlds today, so when a student enjoys a book such as To Kill A Mockingbird, we must feed this new passion and realization that reading is enjoyable and educational. New books would allow our students to experience our history and to find a world of their own in literature.
