I teach Special Education Language Arts in a Title I school. Many of my students come from low income families and do not have many resources at their disposal. When they come into the classroom they are greeted with respect and have learned to have respect for myself, others, and the classroom. Each student struggles with reading comprehension at some level. This limits the books they are able to read and understand which can cause frustration. They are eager to read books that everyone else in the school is capable of reading. They want to read the latest and most interesting texts possible, but their disabilities often do not permit. Each student continues to make progress with their specific goals and doesn't let a challenge stand in their way when it comes to reading. Each book is met with tenacity and a willingness to complete the book.
