Our school is located in a quiet, middle class neighborhood. The student population is very diverse as is the case in many big, urban districts. The interesting thing about this school is that the parents are craving for more instruction in the arts than the district is offering. Many of our parents are musicians or have musicians in their immediate family. The district instrument program does not start until grade 4 and has limited spots available. Not only are the parents craving more music, the kids are as well. Every available after school enrichment program that has dealt with music has been filled up almost immediately. Our program has been embraced wholeheartedly by not only the parents and kids, but also the whole school community. The PTA does their best to help us raise money and the teachers support our efforts to bring more music back to school.
