I teach in a New York City public school in the borough of Queens. My students are in first grade and we have the wonderful advantage of serving an international community. Our students speak many languages and represent many cultures. They enrich us all with this diversity. The parents are very excited to have their children in our school and their high expectations are part of our students' motivation to excel. With those expectations, we have to make sure we give these enthusiastic learners the best resources so that they will be on par with the best students they meet in the future. Academic success with our new and developing Common Core Curriculum is unquestionably a goal but to achieve it we need the very best for these children.
