The use of our classroom library is a daily experience for my students. My school's Improvement Plan emphasizes literacy throughout the day. Research indicates that students need a minimum of 90 minutes of reading daily to be successful readers. During our Literacy Block and station rotations, students visit our classroom library to develop independent reading skills that will build their stamina for their future education.
I want this space to be cozy, inviting, and comfortable so that students will want to re-visit the library throughout the day. I have worked hard at creating a continuum of reading materials that address all of my student's interests. With the items requested, I want to create a space where my students feel comfortable and confident to use the skills and strategies on their own.
I believe that a beautiful rug area with colorful chairs will accomplish my goals. It will also help student's reading skills soar through First Grade. The three cozy chairs will bring color and relaxation to my students when they are reading. The beautiful carpet will be a big asset to students comfort in the classroom and be a great place for students to buddy read and learn from their peers.
