Thank you for visiting my project. I continue to be amazed and grateful for the kindness of strangers in support of young people. I teach reading and writing to 75 eighth graders. Some of them are indifferent or reluctant readers, but a large group of them are avid and voracious readers. I taught 6th grade for many years, and now I realize that I don't have enough young adult literature books in my classroom library to satisfy my willing and able readers. These students worked very hard to become the readers they are, and I want to provide them with books that reflect their more mature interests and sophisticated reading ability. They are African-American and Hispanic students at a Chicago public school which provides at least 30 minutes a day for independent reading, meaning students choose their own books. Please help them develop into life-long readers.
