With the new NGSS standards, one of the sections I teach in elementary science is about sound. First and fourth grade students learn about what makes sounds, how they are produced, pitch, volume and wavelengths. It is easy to hear sound, but to see the differences between soft/loud/high/low sounds is not easy. What makes a whisper a whisper or a shout a shout? These digital sound meters will help the students see the decibels that sounds produce...both sounds from instruments and sounds they make. They will also explore sounds around them in the classroom and around the school. Help me make the exploration of sound even more engaging for these budding scientists!
