My students are my pride and joy! They are a vivacious, hilarious and outgoing bunch! Most of my students live in poverty-stricken areas in the city. They love learning and are eager to participate at any given task. I use songs, raps and chants to beef up the engagement and increase the retention of concepts that are taught. They are a very respectful bunch and really give new meaning to giving effort. The students and I have created a classroom community that is harmonious. Our class motto is "We learn from our mistakes." And we live and learn by that motto.
Our school is over 80% free and reduced lunch and we have a very high Hispanic population. We service almost 700 students grades K through 6th. We are a school that has been lead by an amazing principal that put students needs at the forefront of every conversation. She challenges teachers to do the same with each and every student and family that we come in contact with. She believes that all students are capable and so do I.
