I teach English Language Arts to 9th grade students. The diversity in each of my classes is reflective of Lowell, MA's supportive and welcoming atmosphere to immigrants from around the world. The high school is 23% Latino/a, 29% Asian (Approximately 85% of the Asian population in Cambodian), 6% African and African American, and 41% White. 30% of my students are English language learners (2008.). My community is also extremely high needs because of the low socio-economic status of the student population. 65% of my students are on free or reduced lunch and the entire school qualifies for the Federal free breakfast program. An immigrant community brings with it a unique set of challenges which can be supported through Donors Choose! Thank you for your support.
