So many of my students do not come from homes that support a love for reading and reading to learn. Many have never been to a library and are behind in their reading level. With most struggling readers I work with, they commonly do not have any interest in reading and lack confidence. I have found that it is very important to provide reading text that is interesting and gripping. Big Universe is the best way that I can expose students to many authors, poems, and stories that are enriching to their education. It provides cultural literacy for students and often incorporates social studies and science topics that correlates to our social studies and science curriculum.
