My 26 first graders come from a rural North Carolina community and have the cutest little Southern accents you've ever heard. They have the brightest smiles and love to show off what they know. Each day, they come to school ready to learn. My students, my fellow teachers, and my school face a real challenge though: we are in a high-poverty area. While the staff members at my school are very dedicated and hard working, we are also on a tight budget, and this has made it difficult for me to secure the supplies needed for active and creative learning in my classroom.

About my class
