Many 21st century classrooms are "going deskless" to help create a more active, student-centered learning environment. The activity tables will serve as student work stations, which my students will be able to collaborate more efficiently with their peers on daily classroom tasks. The bookcases and book bins will help the students organize their various belongings (folders, notebooks, etc.) since the students won't have their own desk to store their materials. The core disks, stools, and balance balls will give the students a variety of options to choose from when they are selecting their choice of seating. The seating options will help the students develop their core strength and posture as well. Research has shown many benefits from going deskless and providing flexible seating options for students in an active and collaborative learning environment. I'm looking forward to "going deskless" and I know my students will be excited as well!
