My 5th grade students are full of energy and ideas, and they love to share stories. We are part of a school that emphasizes the importance of teamwork, kindness, responsibility and relationships. My students and I spend a lot of time together sharing ideas, reflecting on lessons, and participating in classroom meetings. The boys and girls in my class are learning how to support each other and build each other up through positive discussions and active listening. We practice these things often. My students thrive in a relaxed and safe atmosphere, and they enjoy sitting around the room when working or reading. They are more productive when they are given the freedom to move around instead of sitting in their desks. My students are hard workers who thrive in a classroom where independent thinking and self-expression are encouraged.
