Our school is a very diverse place of learning! We have a wide variety of cultures and languages spoken from all over the world! 80% of the children at my school qualify for free and reduced lunch. With that comes a long list of emotional and academic issues. Many students come to school hungry, so we feed them breakfast and give them a daily fruit or vegetable snack. Some even go home on Friday's with a backpack full of food to keep them fed over the weekend. Many children come to kindergarten without ever having been read to. Entering school with little or no literacy exposure often causes students to be behind in their reading abilities. As a result, we have a lot of students performing below grade level. Our staff at this school works diligently to boost student achievement. We teach in small groups, we analyze data and modify our instruction, and some even teach our after school club. There is never a dull moment at school!
