After teaching high school special education for 18 years, I have been asked to move to our middle school in order to provide some much-needed stability and consistency. I would love to create a warm and inviting classroom filled with the supplies my students require to thrive. In special education, creating an environment where students feel comfortable and welcomed is very important. Additionally, in a rural school district with many students receiving free and reduces lunch, it is important to have all the supplies necessary for success. During their middle school years, there is often a stigma associated with entering a special education classroom. My goal is to remove that stigma by having my room be a classroom where all students can enter and feel a sense of belonging. This is a new adventure for me after two very stressful years in education and I know this change will reignite my passion for teaching, but more importantly, it will provide our middle school students with the consistency and stability necessary for them to make the gains required for success in high school.
