Sitting in a tiny desk for 90 minutes can be monotonous and restrictive. By allowing students the option of flexible seating, we are giving them more freedom in a functional way. The desks in my classroom are too small for some students and are definitely not comfortable. Students who are comfortable and at ease are easier to engage and more likely to learn. Providing students with a more welcoming atmosphere will benefit the challenge of preparing for the state test, writing essays, reading literature, and interacting with new material. The option for flexible seating also provides a great incentive and a way to reward students who have been working hard.
