I teach 6th grade at an inner city school. My class has many students that are new to the country and are trying to acclimate to the American culture and learn English as well as children from families that are struggling to provide basic necessities. Often times, these students are not prepared with basic supplies such as paper and pencils or are not ready to verbalize answers in a new language.
