My creative artists are students attending a K-5 elementary school that now consists of 60% of students in poverty. 1 1/2 years ago, on Martin Luther King Day, I shared my dream. I shared the dream that I could grade students on their ideas, not how well they could complete my ideas. That was the start of our TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) environment. In that short time our art room has evolved to an Art Studio, where artists come to do their work. They have 1 year of Architecture under their belts, and they can't get enough! The building designs, concepts, and collaborations were exciting to experience. They created homes, garages, apartments, jails, additions, renovations, and more. The addition of the Lego Architecture White House challenged students to follow a plan and understand the decisions of a designer. I continually reflect on the words of a past head of our Department of Public Instruction. "If we don't nurture creativity, we are going to lose our entrepreneurs!"
