I teach 8th grade Language Arts. On average, I have 110 - 120 students per year. I teach in a Title I school where we have a 100% free and reduced lunch as well as a large ELL population. We are a school that has been in Restructuring II for a number of years. Recently we have been making GREAT strides and have become a demonstration school because of our successes. Our school is a wonderful place to be each and every day. We have a wonderful attendance rate largely due to the fact that our students KNOW they are in a safe environment for learning as well as having the opportunity to be just kids. Unfortunately many of our kids go home to the questions of food, shelter, safety, etc. Unfortunately with the present economy we are seeing these numbers grow. In my classroom, I strive to make sure that EVERY student knows that he/she is safe and that we are going to do this together, no matter what!
