I am a special education teacher at a low income middle school (6th-8th grades) on the Western Slope of Colorado. My students have disabilities (autism, multiple disabilities, physical, and intellectual). Their academic abilities range from pre academic to the 4th grade level. Each of these kids are on Individualized Education Plans that focus on their goals and objectives. They are able to read, compose writing, and do math on their own or with assistance from a staff member or by using technology. A few are not able to speak on their own, but are able to communicate through using an app on an iPad. Some need technology in order to write due to physical limitations. Other students need enlarged texts, dictionaries, and texts read to them. My students are learning despite the odds with the use of technology!!
