Exploring with building sets and puzzles allows students to create with structure. As students share these activities with their classmates they are learning how to cooperate and interact with others. They learn how to express themselves and problem solve. The structure that exists naturally in these puzzles and building sets applies boundaries and rules for the students to explore creatively but safely. As a structure goes up the students might see that if it is about to fall they can safely take it down and restructure it. Puzzles that are put together are a challenge but by looking at colors and the shapes of the puzzle edges students know that it can be built.
