Most of our students come from family backgrounds where English is a second language. Using movies that complement the historical and literary topics they are studying is a very strong aid and help when it comes to developing their English and comprehension skills. Historical documentary series, like Empires Collection, will give students better insight into the historical time periods and civilizations they are reading about in class. Watching movies, such as The Crucible and Of Mice and Men, that are related to classics novels that are being read in class aid in differentiation in the classroom for our students at all reading levels. Although our movie library is limited in size right now, when we do use the resources we have, we see a significant improvement in student learning and students are always commenting on how they wish there were more movies and documentaries to go along with the text(s). These new movies will definitely help our students to succeed.
