Doreen Cronin is one of the authors my students will be reading this year. It is my job get students excited about reading Click, Clack, Moo; consequently, they become interested in other works by her. I want to give my students the opportunity to earn tokens they can use to earn a book authored by her. Students win tokens after reading a select portion of the story to me aloud independently or parents can record them reading the story aloud at home from their reader. Each student will be given a token to trade for another book from the author to keep.
Students are not just getting books, they are building personal libraries to share with their friends and family. Each student will be given a small plastic crate to store their books in and will be encouraged to read them in their spare time to build fluency and self-confidence. They will receive satisfaction knowing that these are THEIR books that they get to keep and bring home at the end of the year. Students will also get the benefit of actually watching a tangible library grow! Imagine the pride for both teacher and students alike as each little box grows from an empty crate to a full library!
