We are in an urban metro school district with a motley group of young people. Half of our team are special needs which included people with profound hearing loss, one with Turner Syndrome and various Autism spectrum disorders. The kids are amazing as are their parents. The parent volunteers and students worked tirelessly during the 6 weeks of competition. Our limits are not in tenacity or volunteer spirit. Our main limit has been resources. The students have overcome many obstacles and are willing to learn so many new things. They have reached beyond technical knowledge and have crafted marketing presentations. They reached beyond their comfort zone to public speaking. They have created a social safe haven for one another and the families have forged bonds through their work together. We want to keep this synergy going and continue to build our program.
