Low socioeconomic and high ESL populations doesn't stop our school from being one of the most magical places anyone could work. Most of my students' parents work two jobs to dutifully take care of their families. And their parents instill values of respect and family loyalty. I watch my big macho sixth graders hold their little sisters hands proudly as they lead them to school. Many of them care for younger siblings at home during the evening while trying to juggle doing their own homework. They blow me away every day and I see education as their way to a more secure future.
