Ours is a Title I school, meaning that my students largely live in poverty. The neighborhood is tough, and gang activity is common. Nearly all of my students are English language learners. Their families come from Central America, Mexico, Pacific islands, and the Middle East, all looking for a fresh start. They speak 5 different languages and come from numerous cultural backgrounds.
