Our project is about understanding the kiln and looking into the data to make better art. My students will be able to compare and contrast the different data points with kiln-firing temperatures, the rate of temperature change, and how that changes the result of the firing. The upgrades will give us some added safety features, which will allow monitoring remotely from an app. Advanced diagnostics will help with maintaining the kiln to prolong the life and safe operation of the kiln. This project will impact all students that use the kiln for their projects from grades k-12. As the students move through the program from their field trip to the kiln room in 1st grade to the middle school students comparing a bisque to a glaze firing, and the high school students in ceramics level 1 - 8 understanding firing programs. This upgrade is a great way to keep the art room moving forward.
