As a Bilingual Speech teacher in a K-5 school, I mainly serve the Latino population, which makes up the bulk of the 1600 students enrolled in our school. My students come from low income working families, who don't have many available resources to aid their children's academic success. All of my students have a willingness to learn and come to speech ready to participate. Many of my students benefit from assistance to process auditory information as well as to express themselves verbally. They learn when they are engaged in activities that are of interest to them. Our school challenges instruction to enable all of our students to reach their maximum potential. We ensure that the richness of our cultural diversity is recognized, appreciated and valued. Ultimately we want our students to be curious, independent and enthusiastic, to develop self-esteem and self-confidence, to love learning and to become lifelong learners.
