I teach special education students in grades 3-5. I fuse into their general education classrooms to support them in reading, writing, and math. Many are so defeated by their repeated failures that their motivation to learn and willingness to take risks with learning tasks are very low. My school is a Title I school which means at least 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My school is located near an air force base and many of my students have a family member in the force. As a result of this many of my students have moved and changed schools several times in their short lives. They need consistency, especially my special education students, and they need motivation and a purpose for learning.
