The students who attend the school I work at are mostly (85%)low income, many (42%) are English Language Learners and some (15%) are special needs students. All are between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. The school is in the northeast United States and is in an urban setting. The school's philosophy is one of expeditionary learning where there is a strong sense of community and a number of 'hands on' learning opportunities.
