My students are a part of a very special family and we have a major social changing goal; the teachers and students (and with the aid of capable families) speak only Hawaiian in our school. Our school is a Hawaiian immersion school and all subjects, including math, are taught in our ancestral language to revive a language on the brink of extinction. All students learn Hawaiian from an early age; the students learn the components of Hawaiian culture, and students also learn the philosophies that create the basis of Hawaiian culture. Along with all of this additional knowledge, students are expected to fulfill the standards set out by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
