We all know that our world has gone digital. A vast majority of future employment is going to involve robotics in some capacity. Our kids are going to need to be able to be competent with engineering and communication skills in order to be competitive in the future job market. I want to be able to start a robotics club at my school and compete in the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League. FLL is awesome! It provides our schools with the perfect combination of interest (robots), drive (the competition), soft skill building (Gracious Professionalism®), hard skill building (programming, designing and building, electro-mechanical systems), and marketing, along with access to STEM professionals and universities. With this grant, I hope to be able to purchase a robot kit to get our club started. After the robot arrives, I will be able to get the kids started in the FLL process of researching a current science theme(involving space this year) and solving predetermined missions by programming our robot. The fun does not stop there. If we are able to acquire a robot we can work on our own created missions, to solve problems and continue to grow. The students will learn the importance of communication and the ability to work together to solve problems.
