My schools band service students from all walks of life. Our school is diverse - a strong mix of African American, Asian, Caucasian, and Hispanic. As a Title I school, many of our students are awarded Free and/or Reduced lunches, and face financial challenges daily. As the largest single high school in Indiana, we have a melting pot of students. This melting pot is a strength of our school - our kids are "west-siders", which around here means they are hard workers and are willing to give an honest effort. It is a goal of our music program to make music available to all who want to learn. The cost of getting and maintaining an instrument gets in the way for some of our students. The challenges of learning and mastering an instrument are great enough; we hope to inspire students by providing the necessary items to play Bassoon and Oboe!
