Flexible seating is a unique option that I would love to implement in my classroom in order to make a huge difference in my student's learning. Many of them have physical and learning disabilities and quickly lose focus due to uncomfortable traditional desks and chairs. In addition to adding flexible seating to help my students stay engaged, allowing them to choose their seats will not only empower them but also stimulate them, which will help them absorb and process the information being taught. I will not only use flexible seating for comfort and focus, but I will also use this seating option to build a classroom community of sharing and reasoning. In a non-traditional classroom like mine, students are encouraged to collaborate, build impactful critical thinking and social skills. Students who are allowed to make choices will perform better in school because they feel as though they have a voice. Helping my students learn to read is a number one goal in my classroom, however ensuring that they learn to make wise choices, work together and share despite their differences is a close second.
