Sand tray therapy has been proven to increase emotional expression while reducing psychological distress. Sensory items provide students with an opportunity to self-stimulate and reset in a calming way. Students strive when they can recognize their emotions and self-regulate. Providing students access to sensory items and bibliotherapy that targets common problems can assist them in learning how to tackle big emotions and problems so they don't hinder their education. Kids learn best through play and exploration so these SEL tools will contribute to understanding themselves and others. These will be lifelong lessons that they can continue to use as they get older.
