My class this year is a "Retention" class as it's been for the past couple of years. This year though, it's a bit more diverse. About 65% of my students are retention students (did not pass state exam last year) and the rest of the students are the lowest 25% of the entire third grade population of the school. Not only do my students have to overcome academic difficulties that are hindered by their learning disabilities and behavioral issues. Most of them also have to "survive" their home life. Many of my students come from very low income families with hard working parents that work crazy schedules. Others have come back into their home after being away from their family in a halfway house because of trouble parents have run in to. School and their classroom is the positive constant my students are guaranteed, and my goal is to provide them with the most safe, loving and caring environment I possibly can.
