My students are primarily of Afro-Caribbean descent, the children of working-class immigrants. Though they are talented both intellectually and athletically, they let their socioeconomic circumstances and labels limit their potential. They are eager to see something different, something other than their immediate realities. The ability to travel through time and space in global history grants them the opportunity to re-imagine themselves as part and parcel of our global society. My students are curious and always asking "Why is life like this? How did it happen?" and the only way they can find out is if they have a library full of multimedia texts ready to give them explanations from multiple perspectives.
