I teach 5th grade students with special needs. They are children who have autism, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, cognitive delays and learning disabilities. These challenges can make accessing curriculum difficult if not impossible without support. I would like my students to find a means of reading that gives them independence, teaches them functional written words and phrases, and gives them a measure of success! Success, pride in achievement, self confidence are feelings that my students struggle with when in class with typically developing peers. Providing the technology that can help them become independent, give them motivation, and help them find success would be invaluable to their development.
