My students are teenagers, forced to live in a community polluted with gangs and gun violence on a daily basis. Nevertheless, they want to succeed in school as a means to become college and career ready. My students are interested in evolving into honest, productive, and positive contributing citizens of their households, communities, and schools. This project will allow the students to freely express themselves through their creative writing pieces , while strengthening a true sense of identity. What better way to show students that multiple individuals genuinely care about their well-being and to listen to ways of how the communities can be improved than by showing students how to articulate themselves through writing?
