I am a the new music teacher at Ortiz Elementary. Previously, I taught elementary music at a neighboring campus, and maintained an orchestra program for elementary students, in addition to the general music curriculum. I've been able to transfer the violins to my new campus, but lack several accessories for students to begin and develop. Without shoulder rests, students are unable to properly secure the violin on their shoulder, and are limited drastically in their development. This will be the only orchestra program in public school in my district. My vision is a strong program that eventually reaches students in middle and high school. As a child, I always wanted to be part of an orchestra, and more than 30 years later, I still have the desire to make that happen for the community in which I grew up. The program itself includes orchestra classes for kinder through 5th grade students, with an after school program for upper elementary students. I've volunteered my time for this project for over 10 years, and look forward to continuing. My students are excited for this opportunity. Your donations will go a long way toward this dream, and the dream of many children in this area.
