My students are diverse, eager, enthusiastic 6th and 7th graders who enjoy working together. They ask each other questions and ponder math concepts in a supportive environment. We focus on communicating and problem solving, as those are key components of successful mathematicians. Our school teaches through the lens of STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts and math. More then a third of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Many of our students come from different cultures with more than two dozen different native languages spoken at home. Our school offers advanced classes for students who excel in academics. We also have a large population of special education students at our school who are integrated into many of my classes. Everyday I work hard at differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of all of these students.
