My students are middle school children served through special education. They have different disabilities that range from Autism, Mild Intellectual Disability, Moderate Intellectual Disability, Significant Developmental Disability, and Specific Learning Disorder. Most of these students have a speech and language impairment secondary to their primary disability. Despite their disabilities, they are like any other teenagers. They enjoy socializing with each other, laughing with each other, and they know when teachers are really sincere about helping them. My school is a center based school, meaning that in addition to having general education students, the school is designated to serve students with a variety of disabilities. My school provides a loving and caring environment for our students with disabilities. The entire special education staff wants them to succeed and acquire the necessary life skills to live productive lives.
