My school is a Title One school, where over 90% of the students are on free and reduced lunch, and the majority are second language learners. Our students come to school with limited vocabulary, limited experiences, and limited home support. We are a poor school with meager funds available. I meet daily with students in grades one through three for reading intervention. The students I see in small groups are the ones who are the most behind in reading, often due to attention deficits. Some students have parents who are incarcerated. Many of the parents are overwhelmed and are just trying to survive. Teaching here is challenging but fills me with a great sense of purpose. I want the best for these students and am willing to do whatever it takes to help them succeed.
