My classroom is multiuse: English Language Arts, Studio Art and Finance classes are all held in one small space. The school follows National and State Curriculum Standards to ensure that all students have access to a quality public education. In order for our students to access general education content teachers must look for Big Ideas, differentiate lesson plans and find alternate ways to assess. These challenges mean that each day is a struggle to find therapeutic and educational ways to approach learning standard that lead to success. Students are at my school for a range of reasons; they have emotional and behavioral disabilities, PTSD, and other specific learning disabilities that impact their ability to take part in the general education classroom. My hope is that by increasing their access to quality instructional materials and well-designed units of instruction they will meet their goal of graduation.
