My students are in a high poverty area. I'm a first year teacher, so I too, am learning as I go. With the exception of a few of my students, they have not been exposed to a number of broadening experiences like eating in restaurants, museums, traveling, books, etc. Many struggle to read and this year, I would like for them to have a listening center so that over time, I can add CD's, books, and learning material that will spark their imagination and to keep my promise to them that "learning to read will take them places they never dreamed they could go". I love my school. The staff is wonderfully supportive. Our school's budget has been trimmed to the bare bones, so a listening center is not in the budget.
