These essential materials will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them an opportunity to succeed at home with some of the most important, necessary school supplies. As many schools are already set to open the 2020-2021 school year virtually, the first thought that popped in my head was that my students will need the essentials: paper and pencils! Then it became clear that my students will benefit from other supplies as well. These scholars need school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, colored pencils and books, to work in all subject areas, including English Language Arts, Social Studies, and STEAM. During these uncertain times it is vital that my students are able to participate equitably in our new virtual learning setting by having the proper tools on hand. My school is 93% Free Lunch. Due to the socioeconomic status of my school, it is likely that the many burdens from COVID-19, mixed with preexisting financial constraints, will pose a problem for my students to obtain an essential set of learning tools. "Equality is leaving the door open for anyone who has the means to approach it; Equity is ensuring there is a pathway to that door for those who need it." - Caroline Belden
