Giving students choices allows them to express their voices at a young age. During work times students in my classroom are encouraged to select a seat that is most comfortable for their own body and learning needs. Currently, students in my classroom are allowed to select from a traditional chair, chairs with "bouncy bands" to help their feet move, stationary stools, rocking chairs, clipboards, or floor seating. Allowing students to select a seat of their own choice has increased their time on task and engagement. My little learners are eager to make seat selections and excited to work once given choices. This project will allow even more options for all students to select a seating option best suited for their own needs. The cushions will provide more comfortable seating on our hard classroom floor while the wobble stools will allow students with increased motor needs to move while engaged in learning tasks. Each of these new seating options will be easily added to my current classroom set up and can be stored for easy student access. They will be put into use the same day they arrive. I have witnessed the value added with flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom and cannot wait to see even more customized choices for all learners. I look forward to seeing our littlest learners discover the power of choice. Thank you for considering funding this project!
