As our society experiences a greater need for people to work in the trades, public schools are in the ideal place to foster an initial interest in vocational education. The tools we hope to add to our wood shop have the necessary features at the right scale for our middle school students. With 20 students in the shop during one period, having multiple saw and sanding stations increases productivity while giving our students a great "hands-on" experience. Each grade level has the opportunity to create at least one wood shop project during their time in Applied Engineering Technology. 8th graders make butcher block cutting boards and shelving units, 7th grade constructs CO2 race cars to learn about aerodynamics, and 6th grade gets to create cell phone holders of various shapes. The Wen tools we have listed are perfect for cutting and shaping the materials we use for these projects.
