We are a typical middle school with 1200 students. The AU team is comprised of 3 teachers and 24 students some of which are nonverbal. These students work incredibly hard to communicate and socialize like every other teen; they just lack the resources. We pride ourselves in providing equal opportunities for our students to participate in electives and work with their typical peers as frequently as possible. My goal is for each of our nonverbal students to have their own iPads to communicate; giving them the opportunities to self advocate and participate, leveling the playing field for them and their peers.
