As a physical education teacher, my students range from pre-K to 6th grade. I work with kids from 4 years old to 12 years old. My school is located in CA in a neighborhood where students are provided breakfast from a federally funded program. Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including single parents, living with grandparents/extended family members, and parents who are or have been incarcerated. They come to school everyday because it is the most consistent thing in their lives. It adds a stability that may not be available in the home. My school has a large population of students that claim English as a second language. This adds another layer of difficulty to their ability to succeed.
